ECREEE and IRENA renew their commitment to accelerate sustainable energy development in West Africa

Bonn, June 11, 2025 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) renewed their memorandum of understanding for the period 2025-2029 during the launch of the 5th IRENA Innovation Week , which is being held from June 10 to 13, 2025, in Bonn, Germany. This partnership aims to accelerate the development of renewable energy infrastructure, improve investment frameworks, and stimulate knowledge sharing in order to support a sustainable energy future for West Africa.

The signing ceremony for the memorandum of understanding took place in the presence of Mr. Sediko Douka, Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy, and Digitalization of the ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Francesco La Camera, Director-General of IRENA, and Mr. Francis Sempore, Executive Director of ECREEE.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is the global intergovernmental organization with the mandate to promote the adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energies and supporting countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future. Its headquarters are located in Abu Dhabi (UAE) and its Innovation and Technology Center is based in Bonn (Germany).
