ECREEE Celebrating 15 years!

In the framework of the fiftieth anniversary of ECOWAS, the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) proudly marks its 15th anniversary—ECREEE@15—celebrating fifteen years of impactful leadership in promoting sustainable energy, energy efficiency, and renewable energy across West Africa. Since its inception, ECREEE has played a transformative role in shaping the region’s energy future through policy development, capacity building, innovative programmes, and strategic partnerships. The anniversary presents a valuable opportunity not only to reflect on key achievements, but also to set the course for bold new initiatives that support the region’s energy transition in alignment with ECOWAS development priorities and global sustainability goals.

The official opening ceremony of ECREEE@15 will take place on July 30, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 (GMT-1) in Praia, Cabo Verde, and will mark a key milestone in the Centre’s journey. The ceremony will feature high-level remarks from the Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy of Cabo Verde, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalization, ECOWAS parliamentarians and representatives from partners and National Focal Institutions (NFIs). It will bring together distinguished dignitaries, including officials from the Government of Cabo Verde, members of the diplomatic corps, other ECOWAS specialized agencies, development partners, and regional stakeholders. The session will also feature a review of ECREEE’s 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, reflections on the agency’s evolution, and a forward-looking discussion on regional energy priorities through 2030.

As part of the celebration, the ECREEE@15 Energy Week will run from July 28 to 31, 2025, also in Praia, Cabo Verde. This week-long program will include thematic sessions, inter-agency exchanges, and validation meetings aimed at deepening regional collaboration and fast-tracking progress on sustainable energy development.
