Pre-Events ESEF 2025 15 to 17 September

As the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF 2025) prepares to gather regional and international stakeholders in Banjul, a series of high-level pre-events from September 15–17 will pave the way with technical discussions, expert exchanges, and collaborative actions.

September 15 – 16: Validation of Training Modules for Clean Mini-Grids

At the Kairaba Beach Hotel, ECREEE and the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) will convene a Regional Workshop on the Validation of Training Modules for Clean Mini-Grids. The workshop will bring together designers, installers, and inspectors to review and harmonize technical training materials. The outcome will be a set of validated modules that strengthen the region’s human capital for mini-grid deployment — a critical step to expanding reliable and affordable electricity access.

September 16 – 17 | National Workshop on Solar Standards (ROGEAP)

The Metzy Residence Hotel will host the National Workshop for the Implementation of Harmonized Standards for Solar Home Systems up to 350 Watts, supported by the World Bank Group through the Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP). Discussions will focus on quality standards, test methods, assurance frameworks, and national regulations, ensuring that off-grid solar products meet robust performance and safety requirements.

September 17: Thematic Pre-Events at the International Conference Center

The Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center will serve as the hub for multiple thematic sessions, each addressing key dimensions of West Africa’s sustainable energy agenda:

  • Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Livelihoods (EELA 2.0) – Supported by UNIDO and SIDA, this session will tackle compliance frameworks, laboratory readiness, product registration, and enforcement mechanisms, crucial for scaling efficiency across the region.
  • Clean Cooking: Towards a Joint Regional Vision – Backed by the EU, AECID, and RVO, stakeholders will work toward a regional policy and standards roadmap to accelerate the clean cooking transition and reduce reliance on traditional fuels.
  • Climate-Resilient Cooling, Climate Change, and Gender – Powered by EU-supported projects (SophiA & AGRICOOL), this discussion will highlight innovative cooling solutions, while exploring climate resilience and gender dimensions.
  • 5th Meeting of the ECSES Technical Committee – Supported by AfDB, this technical session will review progress on the ECOWAS Certification of Sustainable Energy Skills (ECSES) and outline next steps for 2026.
