Praia, 13 August 2025 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) welcomed a high-level delegation from the Federal Ministry of Power of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, led by the Director for Distribution Services Department of Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Power, Engr. B. U. Mustapha. The three-day study tour, sponsored by the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, focused on learning from Cabo Verde’s achievements in renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, and clean mobility.
Dr Mawufemo Modjinou, Head of the Division for Energy Efficiency at ECREEE, warmly welcomed the delegation and highlighted the value of Nigeria’s leadership and experience in the power sector to the region’s collective progress. He stressed that the visit was an important opportunity to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and explore avenues for deeper collaboration towards universal, reliable, and clean energy access across West Africa.
The study tour agenda included technical sessions and field visits to Centro de Energias Renováveis e Manutenção Industrial (CERMI), Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Energy Electricidade de Cabo Verde (ELECTRA), Municipal and community projects.
The Nigerian delegation gained insights into sustainable energy policy and investment frameworks, grid integration approaches, and capacity-building models that have enabled Cabo Verde to become a continental reference point for energy transition.
The visit fostered stronger institutional links between ECREEE, Nigeria and Cabo Verde, facilitated the exchange of technical expertise on distribution losses reduction, e-mobility, and inspire joint initiatives aimed at accelerating renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean transportation development in the ECOWAS region.
