New Publication: ECOWAS Energy Efficiency Report

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is pleased to share with you the first-ever Regional Report dedicated exclusively to Energy Efficiency in West Africa.

This report is co-published with the African Energy Commission (AFREC), a specialized energy agency of the African Union. AFREC’s overarching objectives include leading the development of energy policies and programs, continuously updating African energy statistics, mobilizing technical and financial support for Member States, and implementing capacity-building initiatives.

The ECOWAS Energy Efficiency Report provides a comprehensive assessment of the energy efficiency landscape in the ECOWAS region over the period 2018–2022. It offers an in-depth analysis of energy consumption trends, efficiency measures, and policy progress across the region, highlighting the critical link between energy use and economic growth. The report identifies the residential sector as a key area for energy efficiency improvements, given its significant share in the region’s overall energy balance.

Additionally, the report presents detailed data on energy intensity and electricity losses, offering valuable insights into how to enhance the overall efficiency of the energy system.
