ECREEE Empowers Staff with Key Training on ISO/IEC 17024 standard to Boost West Africa’s Green Energy Workforce

Praia, October 10th, 2025 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is empowering its team through a dedicated capacity-building program from October 6 to 15, 2025, in Praia. The training, organized in collaboration with GIZ, is a critical step towards establishing a world-class system for certifying sustainable energy professionals across West Africa.

The intensive workshop will equip ECREEE staff with the expertise to implement the international ISO/IEC 17024 standard. This standard serves as a global benchmark for certifying individuals, and mastering it is crucial for ECREEE to achieve international accreditation for its ECOWAS Certification of Sustainable Energy Skills (ECSES).

According to Mr. Gibson Obasi, Ag. Executive Director of ECREEE, “This training is a strategic investment in our team’s capabilities. By aligning our processes with this prestigious international standard, we are building a certification system that will be trusted by governments, industry, and investors across the region and beyond.”

This internal capacity building will enable ECREEE to reliably certify that solar and renewable energy technicians possess the proven skills necessary to work safely and effectively. The resulting accreditation will enhance the centre’s credibility, helping to attract crucial funding and partnerships to scale up West Africa’s clean energy sector, directly supporting ECREEE’s mission.
