ECREEE and the EU Strengthen Cooperation on Sustainable Energy Development

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) welcomed Mr. Cristobal Delgado Matas, Head of Cooperation of the European Union in Cabo Verde, for a high-level meeting to strengthen collaboration on sustainable energy development in West Africa.

The delegation was received at the ECREEE headquarters by the acting executive director, Mr. Gibson Obasi, who reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships to support sustainable energy development and regional integration across the ECOWAS region.

The discussions focused on strategic priorities, regional energy challenges, and opportunities to accelerate the development of impactful and investment-ready projects within the ECOWAS region. Particular emphasis was placed on supporting ECREEE in identifying and preparing bankable projects aligned with regional energy needs and priorities. The delegation highlighted ECREEE’s important role in facilitating the preparation of projects that could benefit from financing under the EU Global Gateway initiative.

Both parties also explored opportunities for collaboration in implementing the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Master Plan (RE and EE Master Plan), including efforts to mobilize investments for priority initiatives.

The visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between the EU and ECREEE, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy development in West Africa.
