Regional Training Strengthens Lighting Testing Capacity Across ECOWAS EAC, and SADC

Maputo, 12 May 2026 – Technical experts from national standards bodies in Mozambique, Uganda, and Ghana gathered at Mozambique’s National Institute for Standardization and Quality (INNOQ) in Maputo from 11–12 May 2026 for a regional training on photometric and electrical measurements for lighting products.

The activity was organized under the EELA Regional Project, jointly implemented by ECREEE, EACREEE, and SACREEE with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. Delivered by experts from the Swedish Energy Agency, the training combined practical sessions with peer learning and technical exchange among regional laboratories.

The sessions focused on strengthening laboratory capacity on key ISO/IEC 17025 requirements while promoting the harmonization of testing practices and procedures across the EAC, ECOWAS, and SADC regions.

For ECOWAS, the participation of the Ghana Standards Authority is expected to further support the work of the ECOWAS Appliances Test and Label Working Group (EATLWG), particularly in advancing harmonized lighting testing procedures and strengthening regional energy efficiency standards and labeling systems.
