Praia, 12 December 2025 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) conducted, from 8 to 12 December 2025, the second Regional Certification Examination for Technicians in Off-Grid Residential Photovoltaic Solar Systems (Level 1) in the city of Praia, Cabo Verde.
The exam was conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI) and the Institute for Quality Management and Intellectual Property of Cabo Verde (IGQPI), forms part of ECREEE’s mandate to certify competencies in sustainable energy across the ECOWAS region.
The ECOWAS Certification System aims to improve the renewable energy and energy efficiency market in the region by promoting quality and safety standards and ensuring the regional recognition of technical skills. This second edition of the certification exam in Cabo Verde brought together 31 technicians, including three women, and was supported by the Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP), which financed the preparatory training and subsidized the examination fees. According to ECREEE’s Executive Director, Mr. Gibson Obasi, the Centre has been making continuous efforts to support ECOWAS Member States in implementing policies that ensure quality, safety, and sustainability in the renewable energy sector across the region.
In 2025, ECREEE certified more than 100 technicians through examinations conducted in Senegal and Nigeria. Additional certification exams are planned for 2026, further strengthening the regional initiative to enhance technical capacities and advance the sustainable energy transition across West Africa.
