Dakar, 7 November 2025 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) organized the fourth Regional Certification Exam for Off-Grid Residential Solar Photovoltaic Technicians (Level 1) from 3 to 7 November 2025 in Dakar, Senegal.
The initiative, implemented in collaboration with the École Supérieure Polytechnique (ESP), which hosted the exams, and the National Agency for Renewable Energies (ANER), the national focal institution, falls under ECREEE’s mandate to certify sustainable energy competencies in the region.
The ECOWAS Certification System aims to professionalize the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector by promoting quality and safety standards and ensuring regional recognition of technical competencies. This edition brought together 33 technicians, including 10 women, with support from the Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP), which financed preparatory training and subsidized exam fees (70% for men and 100% for women).
Throughout 2025, more than one hundred (100) technicians have already been certified by ECREEE, and additional exams are scheduled to take place between November and December in Cabo Verde and Nigeria, further consolidating this regional initiative to strengthen technical skills and advance a sustainable energy transition in West Africa.
ECREEE reaffirms its commitment to supporting ECOWAS Member States in implementing policies that ensure quality, safety, and sustainability in the renewable energy sector across the region.
