ECREEE is organizing a Regional Training-of-Trainers Workshop on Clean Mini-Grids to Strengthen Local Expertise in West Africa
The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the Renewables Academy (RENAC), will organize a Regional Training-of-Trainers Workshop on Clean Mini-Grids Design, Installation, and Inspection, from October 20 to 31, 2025, at ESMER Academy in Cotonou, Benin.
This capacity-building initiative forms part of the Desert-to-Power West Africa Regional Energy Program – Phase 1 (WAREP), funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The program seeks to accelerate access to sustainable energy in the Sahel and ECOWAS regions by promoting large-scale deployment of solar technologies and mini-grid systems.
The training marks a crucial step in operationalizing Level 2 of the ECOWAS Certification of Sustainable Energy Skills (ECSES). Twenty-four trainers from eight training and examination centers across ECOWAS Member States will be equipped with advanced technical and pedagogical skills to deliver national-level training for mini-grid designers, installers, and inspectors and conduct certification exams for level 2.
Through this training, ECREEE continues to strengthen the foundation for a skilled and competitive regional renewable energy market, ensuring that clean mini-grids become a reliable and sustainable solution for powering communities and driving socio-economic transformation across West Africa.
