Detailed Agenda ESEF 2025: Promoting Infrastructures for Growth in ECOWAS

The ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF 2025) will take place on September 18–19, 2025, at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center in Banjul, The Gambia, bringing together policymakers, private sector leaders, financiers, and development partners under the theme: “Accelerating Sustainable Energy Infrastructure Solutions for Growth in the ECOWAS Region.”

Over two days, delegates will engage in high-level dialogues, technical discussions, and knowledge exchange to advance sustainable energy access, efficiency, and innovation across the region.

Day 1 – September 18

The Forum will open with an official ceremony featuring ECOWAS leadership, host country representatives, and international partners.

Key highlights include:

  • Ministerial Dialogue on accelerating sustainable energy infrastructure solutions to drive economic growth and regional integration.
  • High-Level Sessions focused on:
    • Clean Cooking Transition in West Africa – advancing policies, investments, and partnerships to scale up access to modern cooking solutions.
    • Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Livelihoods (EELA 2.0) – exploring compliance frameworks, market surveillance, and the role of innovation in reducing energy waste.

Day 2 – September 19

The second day will focus on strategic programs and transformative initiatives:

  • Special Sessions showcasing flagship projects such as Desert to Power (DtP), WAREP, ReTAPS, and the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Market.
  • Key Thematic Sessions on:
    • Powering Food Systems in West Africa – leveraging renewable energy to strengthen agriculture, cold chains, and food security.
    • Sustainable Mobility and Grid Impacts – exploring opportunities and challenges of electrification in the transport sector.
    • Green Hydrogen Strategy – assessing progress and identifying priority actions to position West Africa as a player in the global hydrogen economy.
    • Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP) – developing solar markets, boosting productive uses of electricity, and improving access to finance for SMEs.

The Forum will conclude with the presentation of final decisions and recommendations, followed by a closing ceremony, awards, and a networking cocktail.

ESEF 2025 is more than a dialogue space; it is a platform for forging partnerships, unlocking investments, and shaping policies that will enable West Africa to achieve universal energy access while driving a just and inclusive energy transition.
