Closing of the 15th anniversary of ECREEE

The activities marking the 15th anniversary of ECREEE, which took place from 28 July to 1 August 2025, ended with the closing of the validation workshop of the Regional Framework on Quality Infrastructure on Solar Thermal Energy organized in partnership with the Directorate of Industry of the ECOWAS Commission and UNIDO through the Star C Project.

This celebration was marked by the organization of the following activities:

  • The 2nd specialized inter-agency meeting on the themes of Energy-Water-Food Nexus & Gender Mainstreaming with the participation of the ECOWAS Centre for Gender Development (CCDG), the Regional Agency for Agriculture and Food (ARAA), the Project Preparation and Development Unit (PPDU) and the Water Resources Management Centre (WREC). This meeting made it possible to assess the status of implementation of the 2024-2025 roadmap and to adopt the 2025-2026 roadmap.
  • The 13th meeting of ECREEE National Focal Points in Member States with on the agenda of discussions the status of implementation of the various initiatives and programmes implemented at the regional level and in the Member States. These include the Nexus-Energy-Water Supply Projects supported by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Regional Action for Clean Cooking in West Africa (ReCCAWA) supported by the European Union and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and implemented by AECID, RVO and ECREEE.
  • The capacity building session on Gender Mainstreaming in Projects and Programmes with the presentation of ECREEE’s Gender Mainstreaming Strategy and the status of implementation of the Women and Clean Energy in West Africa “WOCEWA” Project. This session brought together the entire ECREEE staff, representatives of the Specialized Agencies CCDG, ARAA, PDDU and CGRE as well as the Representative of the International Development Research Centre-Canada (IDRC) which supports the WOCEWA project.
  • The validation meeting of he Draft Directive on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with the participation of the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Sector Regulatory Authority (ERREC), the West African Power Pool (WAPP) as well as the Directorates in charge of Energy, Environment and Legal Affairs of the ECOWAS Commission. This activity is supported by GiZ through the Programme “Promotion of a Climate-Friendly Electricity Market in the ECOWAS Region (ProMERC II).

As a reminder, the Official Celebration of the 15th anniversary of ECREEE took place on July 30, 2025 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy of Cabo Verde, Mr. Alexandre Monteiro with the participation of a delegation of ECOWAS Parliamentarians led by Her Honorable, Mrs. Fanta CONTE, Chairperson of the Energy and Mines Commission.
