The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is launching capacity-building activities for beneficiaries from communities in Benin within the framework of the Regional Fund for Stabilization and Development in Fragile Regions (FRSD) through the project “Promotion of the WE4F nexus (Water and Energy for Food) through capacity-building in ECOWAS communities”. This fund was launched by the ECOWAS Commission in collaboration with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
ECREEE’s planned capacity-building activities in Benin are as follows:
- A training session and a certification session on domestic solar photovoltaic installations for 25 beneficiaries are to be held respectively from May 26 to 30, 2025, at ESMER Academy, located in Allada, and from June 2 to 6, 2025, at ESMER, in Abomey-Calavi. These activities are aligned with the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Skills Certification System promoted by ECREEE and its partners.
- A training course on green entrepreneurship for 30 participants, to be held from May 26 to July 18, 2025, at the Centre Songhaï in Porto-Novo, in partnership with VSF Belgium in Benin.
As a background, this project aims to respond to the challenges faced by the most vulnerable groups, particularly women and young people in communities in three countries: Benin, Togo, and Guinea-Bissau. In Benin, interventions will specifically target beneficiaries in the Atakora, Collines, and Donga departments.
