ECREEE BIDS FAREWELL TO PIONEER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Mr. Mahama Kappiah: Outgoing Executive Director ECREEE

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) bids farewell to its pioneer Executive Director, Mr. Mahama Kappiah, after ten years heading the Centre. Effective May 1, 2020, Mr. Kappiah has been appointed to serve as the ECOWAS Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York by the President of the ECOWAS Commission.

The 2nd Lights on Women Scholarship by the FSR offers four scholarships to women contributing to innovative energy solutions, research and initiatives that accelerate the energy transition.

With a view to coordinating and strengthening the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019, otherwise known as COVID-19 in West Africa, the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), under the chairmanship of H.E. Mr. Issoufou MAHAMADOU, President of the Republic of Niger, and current Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, held on 23 April 2020 a videoconference Summit on the situation and impact of the coronavirus. 

ECOWAS COMMUNIQUE: FIGHT AGAINST THE CORONAVIRUS DISEASE

ECOWAS CONTINUES TO SUPPORT MEMBER STATES IN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE SPREAD OF THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC 2019 (COVID-19)

1. ECOWAS continues to closely monitor the evolution of the Coronavirus pandemic in the world and particularly in West Africa. As of 5 April 2020, the 15 Member States are affected by the pandemic with 1 739 confirmed cases of contamination, 55 deaths and 328 persons who have fully recovered. It should be noted that approximately 95% of deaths are patients with comorbid conditions.

Solar PV Mini-Grid Project for 200 Households at Sare Pateh Jamwelly- The Gambia

  1. Unique Energy Co. Ltd and Unique Solutions Co. Ltd have received part financing from the ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) towards the cost of the “Solar PV Mini-Grid Project for 200 Households/Businesses at Sare Pateh Jamwelly-The Gambia”, and intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods and works services to be procured under this project. The project will be co-financed by Unique Group Co. Ltd.

  1. The project will include the following components:

BURKINA: TOWARDS THE ADOPTION OF A GENDER MAINSTREAMING POLICY IN ENERGY ACCESS

The Ministry of Energy plans to ensure equal access to energy resources. To this end, a workshop to validate the action plan for gender mainstreaming in energy access in Burkina Faso was organized. It was this Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in Ouagadougou.

GENDER PROMOTION: THE ENERGY SECTOR VALIDATES ITS ACTION PLAN

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Jean-Paul YANOGO, presided, on Wednesday 05 February 2020 in Ouagadougou, the opening ceremony of the national workshop to validate the gender and energy action plan-Burkina Faso. The objective of this action plan is to ultimately achieve greater participation of women in the energy sector.
