TRAINING OF TRAINERS OPPORTUNITY ON SOLAR THERMAL

The Luxembourg Agency for Development Cooperation (LuxDev) in Praia, Cabo Verde, and the Centre for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance of Cabo Verde (CERMI) are pleased to announce a Training of Trainers on Solar Thermal, under the Project “Strengthening the Regional Position of CERMI” financed by the European Union and implemented by LuxDev, in close collaboration with the CERMI.

The Training of Trainers on Solar Thermal will be held at CERMI, Praia, Cabo Verde, from 11th to 22nd of November 2019.

ECOWGEN – Ensuring Gender Parity across the sub region in the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RE & EE) Sector

To promote the participation of women in the RE & EE sector, the African Development Bank (AfDB) provided ECREEE with a grant of USD 1,000,000, through the New Partnership for Africa’s Development Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility Special Fund (NEPAD-IPPF Special Fund), to implement a project entitled: ‘Feasibility study on business opportunities for women in a changing energy value chain in West Africa’. 

The Project is at the stage of Selection of Final Options for the feasibility study.

It is with deep regret that the President of the ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Jean Claude Kassi Brou, announces the sudden passing of His Excellency Marcel Alain De Souza, former President of the ECOWAS Commission. The sad event occurred in Paris, France on 17 July 2019.

Climate Services for the Energy Sector - Towards Sustainable Energy Planning in the ECOWAS region

From the 9th to the 11th of July 2019, the ECREEE secretariat in Praia Cabo Verde hosted a consortium of climate researchers alongside stakeholders from the water and energy sector from the ECOWAS region to discuss and deliberate on the issues and challenges to enhancing climate services for improving the planning and efficient use of water and energy resources in the West African region.

Heads of ECOWAS institutions and agencies calls for a comprehensive job assessment exercise on the Staff Regulation Framework

ACCRA, GHANA – 10th July 2019 – Heads of ECOWAS institutions and agencies have called for a comprehensive survey of what they called ‘a job assessment exercise’ in a bid to evaluate its functions and effectiveness vis-à-vis other functions of ECOWAS.

This was outlined in the recommendations at the end of a two-day meeting held in Accra, Ghana on the validation of the new ECOWAS Staff Regulations Framework.

PREPARATION OF A NATIONAL ACTION PLAN TO IMPLEMENT THE ECOWAS GENDER POLICY ON ENERGY ACCESS

On the 2nd and 3rd of July 2019, and with the support of the Spanish Cooperation AECID, ENERGIA, and the legal firm Sullivan & Cromwell, ECREEE held the inception workshop for a new project to support ECOWAS Member States in the preparation of the National Action Plans to comply with the ECOWAS Policy on Gender Mainstreaming for Energy Access.

ECREEE attends Africa Energy Forum 2019 in Lisbon

Praia, - 18th June 2019 - Energy Experts have concluded that indecisiveness of policymakers and failure to streamline projects as well as collaboration with international institutions hinders the development of solar projects in Africa. This was echoed at the Africa Energy Forum 2019 (AEF) held in Lisbon, Portugal from 11 – 14 June 2019. The Africa Energy Forum (AEF) is a global investment meeting for Africa’s power, energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors.
