Praia, Cabo Verde, 24 July 2026 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) hosted the first Technical Committee Meeting of Regional Clean Cooking Action in West Africa (ReCCAWA) from 23–24 July in Praia. The hybrid meeting brought together representatives of the ECOWAS Commission, the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
The committee reviewed the programme’s 2025 achievements and 2026 implementation progress, approved the work plan for the second half of 2026, and discussed key initiatives, including the Regional White Paper on Clean Cooking, progress of the Country Support Packages, and the development of ReCCAWA’s Community of Practice and database.
In his opening remarks, ECREEE’s Acting Executive Director, Mr. Gibson Obasi, highlighted clean cooking as a critical development priority for West Africa and emphasized the importance of the strong partnership between the ECOWAS Commission, the European Union, the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, RVO, AECID, and ECREEE in driving the successful implementation of the ReCCAWA programme.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of key recommendations and the finalization of preparations for the next ReCCAWA steering committee meeting, scheduled for September 2026 in Abuja.
