ECREEE Organises the Fourth Regional Certification Examination for Off-Grid Solar Photovoltaic System Technicians in Benin

Allada, Benin, 8 August 2026 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in partnership with the Higher School of Renewable Energy Professions (ESMER), organised the fourth Regional Certification Examination for Residential Off-Grid Solar Photovoltaic System Technicians – Level 1, from 3 to 7 August 2026 in Allada, Benin.

With the support of the Directorate General for Energy Planning and Rural Electrification (DGPER), serving as the national focal institution, the examination brought together 222 candidates, including 20 women, who were assessed through both theoretical and practical examinations. The initiative contributes to the professionalisation of the renewable energy sector, enhances quality and safety standards, and promotes the regional recognition of technical competencies.

The examination also forms part of the Government of Benin’s training and certification programme for 350 young people, implemented under the “750 Socio-Community Infrastructure Project.” A total of 295 applications were received, demonstrating the growing interest among Beninese youth in training and certification in the field of off-grid solar photovoltaic systems.

Through this initiative, ECREEE reaffirms its commitment to supporting ECOWAS Member States in developing professional skills and promoting quality, safety, and sustainability in the renewable energy sector, thereby contributing to a sustainable and inclusive energy transition across West Africa.
