ECREEE and Expertise France conclude a Three-Year Renewable Energy Program

Praia, 29 May 2026 – ECREEE and Expertise France concluded a three-day exploratory meeting at ECREEE headquarters in Praia, Cabo Verde, advancing preparations for the European Union-funded program aimed at supporting regional electricity market integration, renewable energy development, and the operationalization of the ECOWAS interconnected power network.

Held from 27–29 May 2026, the meeting brought together ECREEE’s technical and management teams, led by its Acting Executive Director, Mr. Gibson Okezie Obasi, and a delegation from Expertise France led by Mr. Lucas Giboin.

In his opening remarks, the acting executive director welcomed the delegation and highlighted the evolving ECOWAS energy landscape, emphasizing the importance of strengthening regional understanding of renewable energy penetration and consolidating policy and regulatory frameworks to advance sustainable energy and the regional energy transition agenda.

During the three-day engagement, both institutions reviewed ECREEE’s ongoing programs and operational priorities while aligning the proposed activities, governance arrangements, implementation modalities, and coordination mechanisms of the EU-funded support program.

The mission concluded with the validation of key activities and implementation strategies for the forthcoming three-year program, including the identification of technical partners, measurable targets, and synergies with complementary regional and international energy initiatives. The outcomes of the mission are expected to strengthen regional cooperation, enhance institutional capacities, and accelerate renewable energy investments across the ECOWAS region.
