Publication of the 2023 Annual Report on Progress Achieved in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in West Africa

Praia, Cabo Verde – September 15, 2025 – ECREEE shares the Report on progress achieved in the fields of Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, and Energy Access in West Africa. This report is the result of close collaboration between Member States through the Ministries in charge of Energy, the Department of Energy and Mines of the ECOWAS Commission, WAPP, and ARREC.

The report provides an in-depth analysis of the progress made in the deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency while highlighting the contribution of renewable energy to the electricity mix, as well as advances in clean cooking and in reducing electricity losses. It also emphasizes the deployment of clean energy mini-grids and household solar systems while underlining the need for stronger consideration of energy efficiency for sustainable and inclusive energy growth in West Africa.

ECREEE expresses its gratitude to its National Focal Institutions in the Member States, to GIZ through the ProMERC Program (“Promotion of a Climate-Friendly Electricity Market in the ECOWAS Region”), as well as to UNIDO, which supported the preparation of the 2023 edition of the Annual Report on progress in RE and EE in West Africa.
