The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) participated in the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum (IVECF 2026), organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, held on 9–10 April 2026 at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna.
The Acting Executive Director of ECREEE, Gibson Obasi, contributed to a high-level roundtable on advancing green industrial corridors and regional value chains in Africa and Central Asia. The discussion emphasized how integrated planning across energy, transport, and industry can accelerate low-carbon industrial development and strengthen regional cooperation.
Participants highlighted the importance of leveraging renewable energy and critical minerals to develop competitive, climate-resilient industrial hubs, while underscoring the role of regional systems such as the West African Power Pool in ensuring reliable and affordable energy supply.
ECREEE stressed the need for stronger alignment between regional frameworks and national initiatives to deliver bankable projects and attract investment. The Forum provided a strategic platform to strengthen partnerships and advance practical solutions for green industrialization and sustainable economic growth across the ECOWAS region.
The IVECF is a high-level global platform focused on sustainable energy, climate action, and green industrialization, co-organized by UNIDO, the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis.
