Praia, Cabo Verde, February 10, 2026 — ECREEE hosted a high-level delegation from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) at its headquarters, reaffirming the strong and long-standing collaboration between the two institutions in advancing sustainable energy across West Africa.
The UNIDO delegation was composed of Mr. Rafik Feki, UNIDO Representative for Senegal, Mauritania, The Gambia and Cabo Verde; Mr. Edson Fernandes, National Programme Coordinator in Cabo Verde; and Ms. Ana Monteiro, Sustainable Energy Programme Coordinator at UNIDO.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Gibson Obasi, Acting Executive Director of ECREEE, who expressed appreciation for UNIDO’s continued partnership and support over the years. In his remarks, Mr. Obasi highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration, noting its tangible impact on accelerating the energy transition and promoting sustainable development throughout the ECOWAS region.
ECREEE presented an overview of its priority programmes, demonstrating measurable advances in scaling up renewable energy and energy efficiency throughout West Africa. The presentation spotlighted strategic partnerships with UNIDO, particularly the Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa (EELA) initiative, while also outlining continued efforts to reinforce regional policy frameworks, accelerate electric mobility adoption, and stimulate sustainable clean energy markets.
Mr. Rafik Feki commended ECREEE for the dynamic and results-oriented approach it has implemented to foster sustainable energy solutions at both regional and national levels. He underscored the value of the close cooperation between UNIDO and ECREEE.
The meeting served as a strategic platform for open dialogue, allowing both institutions to identify and explore new avenues for collaboration. Discussions focused on strengthening and systematizing joint efforts, particularly in priority areas such as the solar energy market, electric mobility, the Energy–Water Nexus, and other nationally implemented projects aligned with climate and development objectives.
Both ECREEE and UNIDO reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration, enhancing synergies, and scaling up impactful interventions that support sustainable industrial development, energy access, and climate resilience across the ECOWAS region.
