Lome, March 5, 2026 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) participated in a regional workshop aimed at a network of journalists from the 19 countries covered by the Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP). The initiative sought to strengthen the role of the media in promoting opportunities for energy access through off-grid solar solutions.
The opening session featured remarks by the National Director of Energy of Togo, Mr. Tchapo A. Singo, the Resident Representative of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Ambassador Deweh Emily Gray, and the ROGEAP Project Coordinator, Mr. Sylla El Hadji.
During the opening session, speakers highlighted that the media are indispensable partners in raising public awareness about the project and the opportunities available for accessing energy through off-grid solar renewable solutions.
In a region with more than 400 million inhabitants, coordinated and effective communication plays a strategic role in increasing public awareness and facilitating access for communities and the private sector to the opportunities offered by the programme.
ROGEAP is a regional initiative aimed at expanding access to electricity through off-grid solar systems across West Africa and the Sahel. The project has a total budget of approximately USD 350 million, financed by the World Bank, the Government of the Netherlands, the Clean Technology Fund, and the West African Development Bank (BOAD).
