Capacity building on construction of improved stoves - WACCA Camps 2015

From July 20 to 24, fifteen stove producers from the 5 Anglophone countries in ECOWAS will convene in Accra, the capital of Ghana to participate in the capacity building on improved cookstoves (ICS) construction.

Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) – Rural Electrification and Sustainable Energy Access Unit – Clean Cooking Energy

Nigerians depend heavily on firewood and inefficient technologies for cooking. This impacts negatively on the health of users, particularly women and children, the environment and represents an economic burden for poor households and small businesses. The Federal Ministry of Environment (FME), the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) and other federal entities and State Governments have led interventions in the clean cooking energy sector such as the National Clean Cooking Scheme.

Praia - June 24, 2015 – A high ranking ECOWAS delegation recently paid a working visit to the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Praia Cabo Verde. The five man technical delegation was led by the Vice President and chair of the committee of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Toga Gayewea McIntosh. ECREEE joins the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) to promote Low Carbon Technologies in the ECOWAS region

As part of its efforts to advance Low Carbon Development in the ECOWAS region and contribute to the sustainable economic, social and environmental development of West Africa, ECREEE has joined the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN).

The CTCN is the operational arm of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)’s Technology Mechanism and was established under the COP 16 to facilitate the transfer of technologies through three core services:

Praia, June 25th, 2015 – Two Special Representatives of the United Nations Secretary-General visited the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) as part of trip to showcase Cabo Verde as a role model for sustainable energy in the ECOWAS region.
