ECOWAS to develop robust energy market

Praia, 26 October 2016 – The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency with its agencies and partners are to develop a robust regional energy market. The Energy market is to increase access to modern and sustainable energy services in West Africa.

Subnational Integration of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCS): Needs and Opportunities for Localizing Energy sector NDCs goals.

This Interactive Panel Discussion will highlight the needs and opportunities for effective coordination and integration of climate action between national and subnational governments. The specific objective is to sensitize by discussions the need for adaptable implementable strategies for integrating energy sector goals of the NDCs at the state and local government levels in order to raise ambitious commitments to scale up mitigation opportunities at the local level through renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Launch of the development of a Renewable Energy tariff calculation toolbox for ECOWAS

Praia, 24th October 2016 – The interest for low carbon renewable energy technologies is gaining momentum in West Africa.  Renewable energy deployment is seen by ECOWAS Member Countries as a way to improve their power sector and expand electricity access. However, the lack of clear renewable energy policy instruments still poses as a main barrier for private sector participation.

ECREEE Launches Regional Certification Scheme for Solar PV Installers

ECREEE and UEMOA with support from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and other partners invite training institutions from ECOWAS member states to participate in a new regional certification programme for solar PV installers. The programme  aims at introducing a quality mark for solar PV installers that is recognized by professionals and end users across borders in all 15 ECOWAS member states.

Praia – October 3, 2016 – The President of the ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Mr. Marcel Alain De Souza, paid his first official visit to Cabo Verde-based ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), where he dedicated some of his time to meet with the staff of the Centre.
