"Under the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centers (GN-SEC) program, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is supporting the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) in the implementation of the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Policy (EREP) and ECOWAS Energy Efficiency Policy (EEEP) by 2030. Currently, an impact assessment on the achievements under both policies is undertaken.

DESERT-TO-POWER INITIATIVE WEST AFRICA REGIONAL ENERGY PROGRAM

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and West African Power Pool (WAPP) have received a grant in the sum of UA4.18 Million (approx. USD 6 million) from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance the Desert to Power West Africa Regional Energy Program (WAREP) Phase I.

Consultancy Services to develop ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Policy

The exploitation of Green Hydrogen as an energy resource in the West African region is still in its embryonic stage. Africa has a growing population of nearly 1.3 billion, which has been increasing at an average annual rate of 2.5% for the last 10 years. The growing population directly implies growing demand for energy and expanded infrastructure to match the growth.

RELAUNCH: ECREEE SHP & Ocean Energy Expert

The ECOWAS Small Hydro Power Program was developed in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and adopted by the ECOWAS Ministers of Energy in October 2012. The Program aims to contribute towards increased access to modern, affordable and reliable energy services, energy security and mitigation of negative externalities of the energy system (e.g. GHG emissions, local pollution) by establishing an enabling environment for small-scale hydro power investments and markets in the ECOWAS region.

Relaunch: Consultancy to conduct studies on the potential benefits of green hydrogen relative to the West African Cooking Alliance and ECOWAS renewable energy facility

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) was established in response to the recommendation of the ECOWAS/UEMOA White Paper on access to energy services in rural and peri-urban areas issued in 2006. The specific objective of ECREEE is also to create favorable framework conditions for regional RE&EE markets by supporting activities directed to mitigate existing technology financial, economic, business, legal, policy, institutional, knowledge and capacity related barriers.

Feasibility Study on Business Opportunities for Women in a Changing Energy Value Chain in West Africa
