The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), the Climate Technology Initiative Private Financing Advisory Network (CTI PFAN) and the Regional Clean Energy Investment Initiative (RCEII) of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), together with their West Africa CTI PFAN partners are organizing the West African Clean Energy Finance Forum (WAFCEF) during the upcoming ECOWAS Renewable Energy Investment Week in Accra, Ghana

The West African Forum for Clean Energy Financing (WAFCEF) will be held on October 8th, with the aim of facilitating investment mobilization for renewable energy infrastructure projects in the ECOWAS region.  WAFCEF will bring together West African entrepreneurs and clean energy companies that with investment firms, banks and venture capital funds are seeking clean energy investment opportunities in the region.   WAFCEF partners include the Climate Technology Initiative’s Private Financing Advisory Network (CTI PFAN), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Banque Ouest Africaine de Développement / West African Development Bank (BOAD), the African Biofuels and Renewable Energy Company (ABREC), and the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID).

Following the WAFCEF day, will be held the second edition of the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Investment and Business Initiative Forum (EREI Forum) on October 9 and 10, which will feature presentations on the ECREEE Investment and Business Promotion Program, including the priority projects from the 2013 project pipeline, the ECOWREX Investment Marketplace and the Midterm Strategy for Renewable Energy Investments in the ECOWAS region. The EREI is being organized by ECREEE and USAID, in partnership with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change -Regional Collaboration Centre (UNFCCC-RCC), AfDB and BOAD.

Participants in the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Investment Week will have a chance to engage in high-level interactive dialogues that will take place between policy makers and energy practitioners.  The discussions will cover the market for renewable energy businesses and investment, as well as the current regulatory environment for renewable energy in West Africa.  The latter is particularly timely, in light of the recent adoption by ECOWAS Heads of State of a new Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Policy. Participants from the region will be showcasing current opportunities and challenges that face project developers and investors in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors in their respective countries.
