THE PRESIDENT OF CABO VERDE RECEIVES UN-ECREEE DELEGATION

June 26, 2015 - As part of the official mission to Cabo Verde, the President of Republic H.E. Dr. Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca, welcome to his official residence in Praia, the two Special Representatives of the Secretary General of the United Nations for SE4ALL and for West Africa, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella and Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas respectively.

At the Presidential Office, H.E. Dr. Jorge Fonseca expressed his satisfaction with the visit and stated how important energy is for the economic development of a small Island state like Cabo Verde with no natural reserves of oil, leaving renewable energy a feasible and reliable solution.

In response, Dr. Yumkella committed to showcase Cabo Verde as a good example for the implementation of renewable energy with the aim to attract more financial and technical investments.

The visit also served to provide an excellent opportunity in approaching and strengthening ties between the State of Cabo Verde and the United Nations. The Executive Director of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Mr. Mahama Kappiah also attended the high level meeting.
