Executive Director of ECREEE meets the Minister for Trade Industry and Energy of Cabo Verde

The Executive Director of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), Mr. Jean Francis Sempore, paid a visit to H.E. Mr. Alexandre Monteiro, Minister for Trade, Industry and Energy of Cabo Verde at the headquarters of the Ministry in Praia, on October 25, 2022. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for the two leaders to discuss crucial topics concerning renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy transition, electrification, and green hydrogen.

Mr. Monteiro welcomed the Executive Director to Cabo Verde and congratulated him on his appointment to steer the future of ECREEE. He also highlighted the role of the Centre in the development of the region and in improving people’s lives through access to reliable, cheaper, and sustainable energy. The Minister further stressed the importance to strengthen the strategic partnership between the Government of Cabo Verde and ECREEE, to develop and accelerate the energy transition, while also encouraging ECREEE to count on the support of Cabo Verde.

On behalf of the ECOWAS Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy, and Digitalization, Mr. Sempore expressed his satisfaction with the existing collaboration between the Centre and the Government of Cabo Verde and also elaborated on some of the issues that ECREEE and the country could work on, including electric mobility, energy transition, and green hydrogen. Mr. Sempore congratulated Cabo Verde as an example of good governance and stability in the region and praised the country's investment initiatives in sustainable energy, positioning the nation as the right place to host ECREEE.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Monteiro expressed Cabo Verde’s desire to host an edition of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF). The idea was warmly welcomed by Mr. Sempore who indicated that is worth considering.
