ECREEE at the Closing Event of the H2ATLAS-AFRICA Project

Juelich, May 2nd, 2024 –  The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and energy Efficiency (ECREEE), participated in the closing event of the H2ATLAS-AFRICA project, hosted by the Juelich Research Centre. This collaborative effort, which began in 2019, involves the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) partnering with African entities from the sub-Saharan region, including SADC and ECOWAS countries.

The main goal of the H2ATLAS-AFRICA project is to assess the potential for green hydrogen production in Africa. Its findings are conveniently accessible through an interactive map, providing a valuable foundation for future demonstration projects.

At the event, the ECREEE delegation, led by Executive Director Mr. Francis Sempore, delivered a presentation focusing on the ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Policy and Strategy Framework. They also contributed to a panel discussion on the necessary policy and framework conditions for the development of a green hydrogen economy in Africa.

Chaired by Dr. Peter Jansens, a member of the Board of Directors of the Juelich Research Centre, the ceremony attracted attendees from various organizations, including WASCAL, SASSCAL, as well as researchers from Germany and Africa, along with other pertinent stakeholders.
