From 12 to 16 October 2026, partners of the AGRI-COOL project convened on the Island of Sal, Cabo Verde, for the project’s first Advanced Training Programme and Consortium Meeting. Jointly led by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the University of the Western Cape, the training strengthened participants’ knowledge and technical capacities in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, cooling technologies, and integrated food–energy–water solutions adapted to African contexts.
Reducing post-harvest losses, improving food preservation, and strengthening agricultural livelihoods require innovative solutions that integrate agriculture, clean energy, and sustainable cooling technologies. Through the project, ECREEE and its partners are promoting practical, climate-smart approaches to enhance food security, improve resource efficiency, and build more resilient agricultural value chains across Africa.
Held alongside the training, the Consortium Meeting brought together representatives of 11 partner organizations to assess project progress, review ongoing activities, and coordinate the next stages of implementation. As part of the programme, ECREEE organized technical site visits, including to INALCA, one of the locations identified for the installation of project technologies. The visits provided an opportunity to connect the project’s research and capacity-building activities with their planned practical applications.
By combining capacity development, technological innovation, and regional collaboration, AGRI-COOL seeks to accelerate the adoption of integrated solutions that preserve food quality, reduce post-harvest losses, and promote the efficient use of energy and water resources
