Nigeria, 28 November 2025 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) successfully conducted the second edition of the Regional Certification Examination for Off-Grid Residential Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Technicians (Level 1). The exam took place from the 17th to 21st November, in Lagos and from 24th to 27th November 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria.
The examination was organized in partnership with the Asteven Energy Institute and National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), which served as host institutions, alongside the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), ECREEE’s national focal point for the certification programme in Nigeria.
This eexamination brought together 37 solar PV technicians, including 11 women, illustrating the increasing participation of women in the West African renewable energy sector. Candidate’s participation was supported by the Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP), which funded the preparatory training and subsidized exam fees—covering 70% for male candidates and 100% for female candidates.
The ECOWAS Certification System sets high technical standards to ensure quality and safety in renewable energy and energy efficiency services across the region. Representatives from ECREEE, COREN, ASTEVEN, and NAPTIN underscored its role in boosting technical recognition, job opportunities, and mobility for qualified technicians, while ECREEE reaffirmed its commitment to helping Member States build strong, sustainable quality-assurance frameworks.
