President Akufo-Addo Elected Chair of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government


President Nana Akufo-Addo of the Republic of Ghana has been elected by the 57th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as the new Chairman of the Authority.

President Akufo-Addo takes over from President Mahamadou Issoufou of the Republic of Niger, who steered the activity of the Authority for a year.

Une session extraordinaire de la Conférence des Chefs d'État et de Gouvernement de la Cedeao est prévue par visioconférence le 23 avril 2020, à partir de 10 heures, temps universel.

Les chefs d'État discuteront de l’évolution de la situation et de l'impact de la pandémie du Coronavirus (COVID-19) dans l’espace Cedeao. Préalablement à la tenue de ce sommet extraordinaire, les ministres en charge des finances et les gouverneurs des banques centrales de la Cedeao ont tenu une réunion extraordinaire en visioconférence, le 21 avril 2020, sur le même sujet.

Agenda, Additional Speakers Announced for ECOWAS 2019 Sustainable Energy Summit in Accra


The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) will be hosting its third annual ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF) on 22-24 October in Accra, Ghana. This year’s venue will be the Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City.

With the support of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (BLMFUW), ECREEE solicited the technical expertise of the Universite Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar- Centre d´Estudes et de Recherche sur les Energies Renouvalables (CERER) to undertake hands-on training for local cookstove artisans in Island of Santiago, Cabo Verde. This workshop is one of the 2017 WACCA activities planned for specified countries in the ECOWAS region to undertake capacity building activities on design and construction of modern and efficient cookstoves.

ECOWAS-GBEP 5th Bioenergy Week opens in Accra, Ghana

With the support of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (BLMFUW), ECREEE collaborated with the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) and hosted the 5th GBEP Bioenergy Week in the ECOWAS region in Accra, Ghana (5th ECOWAS/GBEP Bioenergy Week). The event opened on the 22 June 2017 at the Fiesta Royale Hotel with high participation.

ECREEE signs important MoU with R20

Following the Austrian World Summit, ECREEE signed a high-level partnership with R20, in order to better carry out the value chain of identification, development and financing of sub-national green infrastructure projects. After the signing, these partners were received by the R20 Founding Chair, Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who personally thanked them for their contribution to furthering the mission.
