ECREEE and IRENA start a capacity needs assessment for clean energy mini-grids in the ECOWAS region

ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in collaboration with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), have started a clean energy mini-grids capacity needs assessment in West Africa, as a first step towards the expansion of a joint capacity building support to ECOWAS member states.

Two SOLtrain programs are running, covering 11 African countries and training them in solar thermal water heating and drying of agricultural products.  The SOLtrain solar thermal energy training and demonstration program in Southern Africa started in 2009 and is now starting its 3rd phase, covering 6 countries.

ECREEE and UN Women Hold International Press Conference, Launching the ECOW-GEN Facility

On 12 October 2015, ECREEE and the UN Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) held an International Press Conference to launch the ECOWAS Facility for Gender Mainstreaming in Energy Access (ECOW-GEN Facility).

ECREEE STARTS TO SUPPORT THE GOVERNMENT OF NIGER TO FORMULATE AN INCLUSIVE NATIONAL MASTER PLAN TO ACCELERATE RURAL ELECTRIFICATION

Praia, 1st October 2015 – The project is launched to support the Agency for the Promotion of Electrification in Rural Areas of Niger (ANPER) to conceive an inclusive National Master Plan to accelerate rural electrification activities in Niger, which among other objectives, will allow the Government of Niger to reinforce its capacities to collect accurate data to monitor and follow up the plan implementation. The project, implemented by ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), is developed in the framework of the APIA program of the Spanish Cooperation to support Inclusive Public Policies in Sub-Saharan Africa. APIA is jointly managed by the Spanish International Development Agency (AECID) and The International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP).

Supporting the development of hydropower plant in Guinea-Bissau

The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) today approved a grant worth approximately USD 1 million to support the development of a hydropower plant with an estimated capacity of 20 MW at Salthino in Guinea-Bissau. SEFA is a multi-donor facility funded by the governments of Denmark, the United Kingdom and the United States, and hosted by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Call for Proposals for Gender-responsive Clean Energy Investments in the ECOWAS Region- Applications Open on 12 October 2015

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and its partners are teaming together to establish a small grant facility to provide technical and financial support to upscale the deployment of projects that simultaneously promote gender equality and improve energy access in the region.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR ENERGY POLICY RESEARCH – APPLICATION OPENS 1 OCTOBER 2015

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is launching a Research Grant Program and is inviting research teams to submit proposals for policy research in any of the energy fields (e.g. energy technologies, energy finance, energy economics, energy policy, energy and the environment/climate change, energy and development, energy law etc.) Teams will receive a grant amount of not more than €1500 to contribute to the formulation of evidence-based energy policies or strategies in the region.

Cette initiative aura lieu entre le 12 et le 16 octobre 2015 et est coordonnée dans le cadre des activités de la 1ère Foire Internationale du Cap-Vert sur l'Environnement et les Énergies Renouvelables (FIAER).
