ECOWAS Industry Ministers adopt regional Standards on standalone solar systems and solar PV mini-grids

The Meeting of ECOWAS Industry Ministers held on Thursday, 30 March 2023 in Banjul, The Gambia considered and adopted six (6) Standards on solar energy. This was based on the recommendations of the experts of ECOWAS ministries of industry Meeting, which held from 27 -29 March 2023 in Banjul.

ECOWAS Energy Ministers Adopt the ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Policy

The Meeting of ECOWAS Energy Ministers on Friday, 24 March 2023 in Bissau, Guinea Bissau considered and adopted the updated ECOWAS Energy Policy, the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Code, and the ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Policy. This was based on the recommendations of the ECOWAS Energy Experts Meeting, which held from 22 -23 March 2023 in Bissau.

Building the Regional Energy Market for an equitable Energy Transition

Freetown, March 20-25, 2023 - The ECOWAS Parliament Joint Committee hosted a delocalized meeting on "Building the Regional Energy Market for an Equitable Energy Transition" in Freetown, Sierra Leone's capital, with crucial steps taken aiming at improving power generation in the West African sub-region, toward an equitable energy transition. 

The meeting's objectives were to inform Parliament about the ECOWAS Commission's plan to ensure: 

Stakeholder consultation framework for off-grid rural electrification in the Liptako-Gourma region takes shape

With the start of discussions with stakeholders, the enabling environment for off-grid rural electrification in the three member states of the Liptako-Gourma region has been revived. In Burkina Faso, a stakeholder conference was held in Ouagadougou on February 16, 2023, while in Mali it was held in Bamako on March 20 and in Niger, the consultation meeting was held in Niamey on March 23.

ECREEE visits ANERSOL

The National Agency of Solar Energy of Niger (ANERSOL) welcomed the ECREEE's Executive Director in its premises on February 28, 2023. In addition to the exchanges with Dr. Mariam SIDO, Director General of ANERSOL on the reinforcement of the partnership between the two institutions, a guided tour was organised for the Executive Director of ECREEE who was able to discover the numerous potentialities offered by ANERSOL in terms of training, expertise and implementation of projects in the field of renewable energies.

 

ECREEE and SACREEE join forces with WASCAL and SASSCAL

ECREEE and SACREEE have been associated to the Ministerial Event of 21-22 February 2023 in Berlin, Germany, as part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of SASSCAL/WASCAL. This participation confirms the perfect collaboration between SACREE and SASSCAL on the one hand, and between ECREEE and WASCAL (West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use) on the other hand, who work together for the promotion of Green Hydrogen in West Africa.

Rural electrification by renewable energy sources in the Liptako Gourma region

The first meeting of the consultation framework for off-grid electrification stakeholders in Burkina Faso took place on February 16, 2023, in Ouagadougou. This capacity-building activity for the stakeholders is organized within the framework of the Project "Support to Rural Electrification through Renewable Energy Systems in the LIPTAKO GOURMA region - Pilot Phase" implemented by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and financed by UNDP.

ARE Energy Access Investment Forum (EAIF) 2023

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is happy to announce that the ARE Energy Access Investment Forum (EAIF) 2023 will take place on 21-23 March 2023 in Abidjan, Côte d´Ivoire.

EAIF 2023 is organized by the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), co-hosted by the African Development Bank and the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa and made possible by GET.invest and Prospect, and relies on the supporting partnership of ECREEE.
