THE ECOWAS COMMISSION AND SPANISH AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION SIGN AN AGREEMENT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF 4 PROJECTS

The President of the Commission of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Dr. Omar Touray, and the Head of Spanish Cooperation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ms. Raquel Ferrando Sellers, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of 4 projects that will foster clean energy transition, zero hunger and gender equality goals in the region. The signing ceremony took place on 6 December 2022 in Abuja (Nigeria) at the headquarters of the ECOWAS Commission.

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) in collaboration with the Ecole Supérieure des Métiers des Energies Renouvelables (ESMER) and the Beninese Agency for Rural Electrification and Energy Management (ABERME) are organizing a regional examination for the certification of off-grid solar photovoltaic system technicians (level 1).

ESEF is the premier energy event in West Africa. It was established in 2015 by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) to support investment in sustainable energy anchored by strong policy initiatives of ECOWAS member states.

Abuja, October 31st, 2021 - The 7th Edition of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF2022) has opened with a High-Level opening ceremony featuring ECOWAS leaders, and international partners reaffirming commitment to improving energy access for all and setting a path for energy transition in the West African region.

Her Excellency Mrs. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, met with ECREEE staff on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, in Praia, Cabo Verde. Mr. Francis Semporé, Executive Director of ECREEE, welcomed the Vice President and her delegation and made a presentation on the programs and projects implemented by ECREEE for the development of renewable energy and the promotion of energy efficiency in ECOWAS member countries.
