Regional Validation Workshop on ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Strategy and Action Plans

To harness the potential of green hydrogen in the ECOWAS region, the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in collaboration with the West African Science Service Centre for Climate and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), developed the ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Policy and Strategic Framework, which was adopted by the ECOWAS Council of Ministers in July 2023, in Bissau, Guinea Bissau.

Launch of training on Energy Policy and Economy

Praia - September 27, 2023 - The ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the Francophone Institute for Sustainable Development (IFDD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy and the Center for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI) of Cabo Verde, launched a two weeks “training in energy policy and economics: issues, analysis of the energy situation and prospects”. The training organized in partnership with ENDA will be taking place in CERMI from September 27th to October 11th, 2023.

11th meeting of ECREEE´s focal institutions

Niamey, July 24, 2023 - The opening ceremony of the 11th meeting of the National Focal Institutions (NFIs) of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) took place on July 24, 2023 in Niamey (Niger) under the chairmanship of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energy of Niger in the presence of the ECOWAS Resident Representative to Niger, the Executive Director of ECREEE and the Representative of the GiZ/PROMERC 2 Project Manager.

ECREEE organizes workshop to uptake green hydrogen in ECOWAS

The closing ceremony of the regional workshop to launch the development of the ECOWAS regional green hydrogen strategy and the 2023-2030 and 2032-2050 action plans took place on 21 July 2023 in Niamey in the presence of Mr SEDIKO DOUKA, Commissioner in charge of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalization of the ECOWAS Commission.

ECREEE at the WASCAL Competence Centre

A delegation from ECREEE headed by its Executive Director, Mr. Francis Semporé, paid a working visit to the WASCAL Competence Centre in Ouagadougou on June 29, 2023. During the discussions, Prof. Kehinde Ogunjobi, Director of WASCAL Competence Centre, commended the close collaboration between the two institutions in promoting Green Hydrogen in West Africa, while advocating for further partnership development in the field of Climate Change and other types of renewable energies.
