ARE & ECREEE’s new partnership to help upscale decentralised renewable energy in the ECOWAS region

Abidjan, 13 March 2019 - In light of the urgency to address the barriers hindering the roll-out of renewable energy, ARE and ECREEE have pledged to support SMEs and start-ups to upscale decentralised renewable energy and cross-sectoral collaborations in the ECOWAS region. They will do so by promoting sustainable energy policies, fit-for-purpose financing, innovative technologies and business solutions globally.

Living transformation! Guinea Bissau attracts investment in 20 MW solar PV power station and mini-grids

Under the guiding motto "NOW OR NEVER", the Guinea Bissau Sustainable Energy International Conference, held from 6 to 7 December 2018 in Bissau, had called for USD 700 million of investment. As a concrete follow-up, the country has recently received funding from the West African Development Bank (BOAD) to construct a 20 MW solar PV power plant near Bissau and two 1 MW hybrid mini-grid systems in Gabu and Cachungo. Currently, the African Biofuel and Renewable Energy Company (SABER-ABREC) has published a competitive tender for the submission of proposals.

Project on business opportunities for women to kick off with 4 country stakeholder meetings

The ECREEE project on Feasibility Study on Business Opportunities for Women in a Changing Energy Value Chain in West Africa is organizing four-country stakeholder meetings to kick-off the feasibility study. Financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the project seeks to develop a high quality, gender responsive, regional energy market development strategy that taps into the innate entrepreneurial capacity of ECOWAS women.

ECREEE Holds 15th Executive Board Meeting

ECREEE holds ninth Technical Committee Meeting

The Technical Committee of ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) Thursday 24th January 2019 held a consultative meeting at the Praiamar hotel, in Praia, Cabo Verde. The ninth technical convergence of the committee was chaired by the Director of finance of the ECOWAS Commission who also doubles as the chairman of the technical committee. The meeting discussed ways and means of promoting the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency in the ECOWAS community, while consolidating the gains made in the sector.

5th ARE Energy Access Investment Forum

The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), in partnership with the African Development Bank and GET.invest (formerly RECP), is excited to announce that the 5th ARE Energy Access Investment Forum will take place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on 13-14 March 2019.

Praia - February 8th, 2019 – The Prime-Minister of the Republic of Cabo Verde, the Executive Director of ECREEE and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Luxembourg, inaugurate the debut of the first seven vehicles 100% electric in Cabo Verde. This was the beginning of a process, which according to the Government of Cabo Verde, will culminate in the next decades by achieving the goal of phasing out the use of fossil-fuel based vehicles.

ECREEE inaugurates mini-grid project in Cabo Verde

Santo Antão – 17/January/2019 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), inaugurated a solar PV mini-grid in Planalto Norte with the capacity of 45 kWp, budgeted in the amount of 300 thousand USD to benefit 50 families in the region.
