International hydropower conference Africa 2017
ECREEE and Poyry Energy GmbH presented GIS Hydropower Resource Mapping incl. Climate Change Scenarios in the international hydropower conference Africa 2017 on 15 March 2017 in Marrakech.
Participants coming from West Africa and from international organizations and private sector showed great interest in results of the mapping.


Abidjan, March 13th – African governments and their partners need to move faster to bridge the continent’s huge energy gap. That means adopting every available solution, on and off the grid, according to a new report from Kofi Annan’s Africa Progress Panel.


In partnership with ECREEE, the Clean Energy West Africa Summit will host up to 300 government officials, developers and investors working on Clean Energy Projects in the ECOWAS region. Attendees can meet representatives from ECREEE on site and will be able to understand how renewable energy markets will develop.

Celebrating International Women’s Day takes many different forms, in many different countries and in many different sectors around the world.   In West Africa, and in the energy sector, International Women’s Day provides an opportunity to recognize cutting edge work addressing women’s energy poverty.    In West Africa, ‘ensuring universal energy access by 2030’ is proving to be more than just a political proclamation; African countries are fast-tracking their energy access goals by putting women’s interests at the center of policy solutions.

ECREEE Receives US$ 1 Million Grant to Promote Women in Energy

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) has been awarded a grant of US$ 1 Million for its project on “Feasibility Study on Business Opportunities for Women in a Changing Energy Value Chain in West Africa”. Funded by AfDB, NEPAD-IPPF Special Fund, the Project aims to advance women’s role as producers and suppliers of energy services in West Africa.

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD-IPPF), is organizing a 4-day workshop, which will culminate with the launch of the regional project on Feasibility Study on Business Opportunities for women in a changing Energy Value change in West Africa. The workshop is being held at ECREEE's headquarters, in Praia, Cabo Verde.

Praia - February 24th, 2017 - The 12th ECREEE Executive Board Meeting was held in Praia, Cabo Verde during which many important issues pertaining to the operations and development of ECREEE were discussed. . Among the salient issues addressed were the adoption of the ECREEE 2016 work program implementation report, the adoption of the ECREEE 2017 work programme and budget and the adoption of the ECREEE Environmental and Social Management Policy.

Praia, February 23rd, 2017 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency is holding for the next two days, its 7th Technical Committee Meeting (23rd) and the 12th Executive Board Meeting (24th). The agenda addressed many crucial topics, such as the post 2016 strategic plan of the ECREEE, as well as the status of implementation and main achievements of the 2016 work plan.


In West Africa, renewable energy entrepreneurs are at the forefront of efforts to extend access to modern energy services as they are often the best placed to offer tailored-made local solutions. Such entrepreneurs, however, face serious challenges including business management and operations, as well as bringing their innovative ideas to fruition.
