ECREEE and AFREA join forces to mainstream gender into energy development in West Africa at the AFREA Gender and Energy Regional Workshop

The Gender  and Energy Program of the Africa Renewable Energy and Access Program (AFREA), the World Bank, and the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) jointly organized a 3 – day capacity building workshop on integrating gender into energy operations, from 7th – 9th April 2014, in Dakar, Senegal.

ECREEE commences implementation of the UNIDO-GEF 5 Project in The Gambia

The preparatory phase of the UNIDO GEF 5 on “Greening the productive sectors in The Gambia: Promoting the use and integration of small to medium scale renewable energy systems in the productive sectors” begins with a 5-day scoping mission led by the project team, comprised of two ECREEE renewable energy experts, a UNIDO international expert and the GEF project national expert, to the Gambia, from 21 – 25 April, 2014.

VISIT OF ECOWAS COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND CULTURE TO ECREEE

On the 11th April 2014, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Education, Science and Culture accompanied by the Director of the same Department paid a working visit to the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE). Also in the entourage was Ms Ruby David-Expert on Culture at the ECOWAS Commission, Mr Francisco Mendes- Cape Verde’s ECOWAS Focal Person and Ms. Zaida Sanches of the state protocol-CV.

WORKING VISIT BY HANERGY HOLDING GROUP OF CHINA TO ECREEE

On 9th April, 2014, Mr. Hong Xiang, from Hanergy Holding Group, accompanied by his Project Developer, Mr Adebayo, paid a working visit to ECREEE; the aim of which was to gain better knowledge of ECREEE’s activities and discuss possible areas for future collaboration.

On March 10th 2014, an Ivorian delegation composed of two ministers from the Ministries of Tourism and Foreign Affairs visited the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) with the aim to discuss issues related to the energy sector and the status of the energy situation seeking improvement for their country (Cote D’Ivoire).

COMING SOON: THE NEXT EREF CALL FOR MINI-GRIDS IN THE ECOWAS REGION

The ECOWAS Renewable Energy Facility (EREF) will support the second call for proposals, which the focus is to provide grant co-funding for the installation of renewable energy powered micro-grids (including hybrids), in rural and peri-urban areas of the ECOWAS Member States.

Global Infrastructure Basel Summit

LAUNCH OF COALITION TO BOLSTER PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR RE

ECREEE was nominated as one of the International Founding Members of the Coalition for Public Support at the IRENA assembly on 19th January in Abu Dhabi, to discuss how to tackle these increasing concerns and negative campaigns about renewable energy. The workshop was attended by 40 leading renewable energy advocates from companies, industry associations and civil society organisations.
